Therapeutic Optometrist Dr. Smith (originally from Louisiana) has lived in the Pearland area since 1974. He graduated from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 1989. Lee has been an active member of the Pearland Lions Club since 1992. As past president, Lee has been in charge of the club's largest fundraisers. He continues to donate his time to the Alvin and Pearland Head-start programs doing vision screenings as he has been doing since 1996. Therapeutic Optometrist Elizabeth was born and raised in Kentucky, and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Louisville. She moved to Houston in 1985 and graduated from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 1990. Elizabeth has been an active member of the Pearland Lioness Club since 1992 and has served 2 years as president. She enjoys medical mission trips and has traveled to Belize, Bolivia and Fiji providing vision care and eyeglasses to the underprivileged in those countries. Elizabeth enjoys studying sign language, cross-stitching, quilting, cooking, traveling, running and bicycling. elizsmith@pearlandvision.com
Therapeutic Optometrist Dr. Atiya E. Husain graduated from Texas A&M University with Honors, in 1999. She obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Biology, with a specialty in Chemistry and also in French, because of her love of languages and the arts. She went on to obtain her Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Houston in 2004. Her clinical training at the University Eye Institute included rotations in the sub-specialities of Low Vision, Pediatrics, Contact Lens, Glaucoma, and Ocular Diagnosis and Management. As part of her training, she completed an internship at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto, California, where she had extensive low vision training and worked closely with veterans and senior citizens suffering from various visual deficits. She also received valuable training at Fort Sam Houston Army Base in San Antonio, Texas, where she had the opportunity to manage many different corneal disorders, pathologies and ocular traumas. For the past five years, Dr. Husain has been providing quality eyecare to patients in the Houston area. She specializes in primary eyecare and the fitting of contact lenses for astigmatism, as well as monovision and bifocal contact lens fits. Currently licensed as a Therapeutic Optometrist and an Optometric Glaucoma Specialist recognized by the Texas Board of Optometry, she is also a member of the American Optometric Association. Dr. Husain resides in Houston, in the downtown area, and enjoys participating in various sports, yoga, running, and traditional greek folk dancing. atiyahusain@pearlandvision.com
